Six million voters names deleted in Maharashtra : voter scam by whoom????????????????

Mumbai: In a shocking revelation that could impact election results, the names of nearly six million voters have been deleted or diverted across Maharashtra.

The deletion was done mainly because the voters were currently not residing in the area in which they were originally registered, a state election commission official said in Mumbai on Saturday on condition of anonymity.

Narendra Modi urges voters to elect Advani with a huge margin

Terming veteran BJP leader L K Advani as a father figure, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi urged voters at a rally in Kalol here on Wednesday, to elect him from North Gujarat’s Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency with a huge margin.

AAP’s national council member Ashwini Upadhyaya quits with 2400 others

n a severe jolt to the Aam Aadmi Party, expelled AAP national council member Ashwini Upadhyay on Monday left the party with 2,400 other workers.
Talking to reporters in Lucknow, Upadhyay alleged that the ideology, with which AAP was formed, has lost somewhere and the common man was feeling cheated.
He said due to this 2,400 workers, including convenors of eight wards and 40 local incharges, have resigned from the party.
Upadhyay questioned AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal “why he elected unconstitutional way for Jan Lokpal Bill and why Delhi Lokayukta was not made stronger?”
He said, “Kejriwal resigned from the post of Delhi Chief Minister without referendum.”
“AAP fielded 455 candidates in tacit understanding with Congress to divide votes,” he said.
He alleged that “Sisodia’s Kabir Foundation was registered in 2007, then how he managed to get Rs 44 lakh in 2005 and 32 lakh in 2006 from Ford Foundation.”
Upadhyay also asked why AAP made Yudhveer Singh, who gave clean chit to Robert Vadra in land deal, its candidate from Hisar Lok Sabha seat.

ElectionsUttar Pradesh Modi says Rahul Gandhi's gaffes funnier than Kapil Sharma show

Rahul Gandhi's gaffes should be telecast on TV instead of comedian Kapil Sharma's show, Narendra Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, said on Sunday, mocking the Congress vice-president's elections speeches, which, he said, were full of gaffes.

"I feel the TV serial of Kapil Sharma [Comedy Nights With Kapil] will shut down in a few days. TV people should gather these Rahul Gandhi [YouTube] videos and show them and the entire tiredness of the elections will go away. You won't have to do anything [else] for entertainment," Modi said at a rally in support of party candidate Uma Bharti in Jhansi in UP.

Modi, the Gujarat Chief Minister, recalled Rahul Gandhi's three speeches, saying they had glaring gaffes.

"This morning I saw my friend, Rahul Gandhi's statement, and I laughed so much that my stomach hurt. What are they saying? Will such people run the Congress, leave the nation aside?" Modi said.

"He [Rahul Gandhi] was in Gujarat yesterday and these days, mother-son have developed a lot of love for Gujarat. They praise Gujarat day and night. Mother speaks somewhere, son speaks somewhere else. Mother speaks one lie and son speaks two lies," he said.

"He [Rahul Gandhi] said: 'Tell me Modi-ji, there is no lokayukta in Gujarat and the day lokayukta comes, this chowkidar [security guard] will go to jail'," Modi said, referring to the Congress vice-president's speech in Bhavnagar on Saturday.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi

Rahul bhaiya, slow down. Why are you spreading such lies? I will tell you. Rahul bhaiya, those who are writing your speeches, they are bent on destroying you, it seems. And your mother's adviser, with whom you do not get along, may be he is providing you with such false speeches," Modi said, amid cheering from the crowd.

"You should know. There is a lokayukta is Gujarat. Not only this, the same lokayukta has given a probe report which was tabled in the last Assembly session. In that report, a minister at the Centre, whose father was once the chief minister of Gujarat and who stole from the forests, ate up forest wood, the current lokayukta has held that Mr Amarsinh Chaudhary guilty. Amarsinh-ji has passed away and that is why we did not want to do politics and that is why we were silent. We never mentioned it. We respect departed souls. And you lie like this?" he said.

When a Gujarati replied to the 16 Questions asked by Arvind Kejriwal to Narendra Modi

While it is praiseworthy to ask questions in a democray, and make the politicians in power accountable for the work they have done, the nature and intent of such political discourse should be clear and related to pertinent issues. Sadly, this is not the case with the 16 questions raised by Arvind Kejriwal on the performance of Narendra Modi led state government in Gujarat. Being witness to the antics and anarchy propagated by Kejriwal, I take the liberty of answering the 16 questions that have been posed by him to Narendra Modi. However, it would be better if Arvind Kejriwal could do some constructive service to the nation by focusing on the real issues of development and nation building instead of resorting to gain cheap publicity at the cost of sidelining the real issues that people should be focusing on. I also humbly expect Arvind Kejriwal to answer the questions that have been posed for him at the end of this write-up. Here are the answers to the questions posed by Arvind Kejriwal.

Congress trying to hide in the bunker of secularism: Modi

AHMEDABAD: Accusing Congress of "trying to hide in the bunker of secularism", Narendra Modi on Sunday said that it was fighting for its survival with even a 100-seat mark in the new Lok Sabha appearing "an uphill task for it".

Reacting sharply to Congress president Sonia Gandhi's accusation that his election campaign was a "dangerous combination of religious fanaticism, power and money", the BJP prime ministerial candidate said, "faced with certain defeat, fighting for its survival it is once again trying to hide in the bunker of secularism.

"Its last hope is to somehow cross the 100-seat mark which now appears an uphill task for it," Modi told PTI.

Responding to Sonia's dig that he was promising to make India a paradise, he said, "I have never claimed that I will make India a paradise and that I have solutions to all problems. I am sure even people do not expect this from me."

Narendra Modi hints at hot pursuit against Dawood Ibrahim

Ahmedabad: Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi lashed out at Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde for publicly discussing the issue of bringing back underworld don Dawood Ibrahim to India.
In an interview to a Gujarati TV news channel, Modi said he feels ashamed and termed Shinde's comments on Dawood as immature. Giving the example of killing of Osama bin Laden by the US forces, the BJP strongman said, "Did the US held a press conference before carrying out the Abbottabad raid."

Expressing his views on how to deal with the Maoists problem, the Gujarat Chief Minister said, "I have publicly told the people following the particular ideology that they have to make up their mind and choose between gun and plough, ballot and bullet, vote and death."

"We need to have zero tolerance towards terrorism, narco terrorism, fake currency issue," Modi asserted.

However, the BJP strongman said, "In some cases where situation can be handled with talks it should be done, but at the same time we need to deal strictly with those who have made up their mind to indulge in bloodshed."

When asked about Defence Minister AK Antony's statement in Parliament on Pakistan that India wouldn't tolerate ceasefire violations, the BJP's PM candidate said that a more grievous issue is of the killing of two Kerala fishermen by Italian marines.
Heavily criticising the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government on the Kerala fishermen killing case, Modi said, "The marines were brought back to India after Supreme Court's order." He further asked the central government of disclosing the location where the Italian marines have been kept.
Modi accused the incumbent government of not being serious towards the security of the people.

Raising the issue of beheading of Indian soldiers on the border, Modi chided Antony for saying that some people came in Pakistani Army uniform and killed the Indian soldiers. He said Anotny's statement was not accepted by the Indian Army which later said Pakistanis killed our soldiers.
The BJP strongman also took the opportunity to mock at former external affairs minister SM Krishna for reading out the speech of the Portuguese foreign minister at a UN meeting in 2011.
Spelling out the agenda of the BJP, the Gujarat CM said that his party believes in unity and development, empowering the downtrodden, providing employment opportunities to the youth, security to the fairer community, irrigation facilities for the farmers.

In his message to the GenX, he said that the youngsters between 18-28 years of age are not only voters but also canvassers. Saying that the young generation is capable of changing the future of the country he urged them to vote for a strong government which can fulfil their dreams.

AAP & Congress are same

So this was the scene at Amethi today. Heartening to see the excitement on the faces of the AAP workers.

But why does the guy in the centre look a bit like some lost cousin of Mr Vishwas ? Can we have some match fixing expert from BCCI investigate this please ?
Guess the photo is enough evidence to get them started!
Nevertheless, our heartiest wishes to the A and B teams of Congress on this reunion.

98 reasons to give BJP full 272+ seats with Modi as PM

MUST SPREAD THIS article to nationalists residing throughout India but most so in states with Third-Front parties – Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Kerala, North-East sister states, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh.

1.     BJP is backed by supremely nationalist RSS, ensuring once-in-a-lifetime statesmen like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani, Narendra Modi, Arun Jaitley, Arun Shourie, Shivraj Singh, Raman Singh, Sushil Kumar Modi and thousands others (who have the nationalist ideology to lead the nation towards material and spiritual progress) are there to serve the nation.
2.     Coalition politics is killing India: It is a Lok Sabha election, state parties like SP (Samajwadi Party), BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party), NCP (Nationalist Congress Party), BJD (Biju Janta Dal), NC (National Conference), TMC (Trinamol Congress), DMK, AIADMK, CPI/ CPIM, TRS (Telengana Rashtriya Samiti), YSR Congress, PDP get anti-Congress/ anti-BJP votes and later sell themselves to the Congress for massive personal benefits. This results in chaos and a fractured Parliament. Nation needs proven, nationalist Government with 272+ seats and a well laid vision.
3.     Coalition politics : Look at how DMK forced anti-Sri Lanka vote in the UNHRC resolution.
4.     Coalition politics : Each dynast in the coalition is a Kingmaker, thereby dynasties further their hold on India and the Ginni coefficient of India (which measures gap between rich and poor) gets horribly skewed.
5.     Coalition politics : Though coalition governments do make efforts to provide for programmatic unity through minimum programs, they are very poor substitutes and are ill-conceived compromises. The ruling party’s Manifesto then loses its value.
6.     Coalition politics : Each of the Third Front parties automatically become “Secular” to ally with Congress.
7.     Coalition politics : The neutrality of civil servants suffers under coalition Government – there are contradictory pulls and pressures on them from regional parties.
8.     Coalition politics : A party which is in power in a state but in opposition at Centre plays mostly politics and doesn’t deliver any governance e.g SP, TMC, JDU, AIADMK.
9.     Coalition politics : Growth of fissiparous tendencies and factionalism based on region, caste, community etc are getting stronger. Congress and regional parties have made reservations based on non-economic criterion to divide society e.g giving minority status to Jains
10. Coalition politics : CBI filed bulletproof cases of corruption on Mulayam, Mayawati, Lalu etc but Congress used them as levers and let off these guilty. Supreme Court, in fact, called CBI a “Caged parrot” of the Congress Government.
11. Coalition politics : Parties giving outside support to Congress and those which joined the Government play dual politics of avoiding blame of ruining the country in past 10 years. Backdoor support given by parties like SP by abstaining during confidence vote or accepting cash-for-votes - Big Nautanki at play.
12. Coalition politics : Politics of consensus is sought to be achieved, which unfortunately often becomes politics of one- upmanship and bargaining.
13. Coalition politics : PM’s choice is often the least resistant and “Accomodative” candidate, not the strongest leader. Just look at ex-PM’s Gowda, Gujral or the current one Manmohan Singh.

Thousands of voters’ names go missing in Mumbai : Congress Voter scam

MUMBAI: Thousands of Mumbaikars, including several prominent personalities, we-re left vote-less on Thursday after their names were found missing from the electoral rolls. Many of them had cast their ballot in both the general and assembly elections in 2009 and carried valid voter identity cards. Others found their names on the deleted list of voters and were debarred this season.

The prominent citizens who could not participate in the election included HDFC chairman Deepak Parekh, eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani, and the chairman of the Bombay Stock Exchange Ashishkumar Chauhan. "I went to vote along with my wife and son. But we were shocked to find our names missing from the list," said Parekh.

The BJP's candidate from Mumbai N-E Kirit Somaiya threatened to file a complaint at Mulund police station on Friday for "criminal negligence and conspiracy" after, he claimed, 1 lakh names had been either deleted or had simply gone missing across Ghatkopar, Mulund and Bhandup. AAP's Meera Sanyal said, "In south Mumbai, our party has found over 21,000 names missing."

The fiasco was a replay of the mess earlier this month in Pune and Nagpur, where too the electoral rolls were riddled with errors. Such was the commonness of the problem there that even Pune police commissioner Satish Mathur could not vote. And this, after the Election Commission revised the rolls in the state eight months ago.

Punish the 'mother-son' government: Narendra Modi

BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Friday called upon electorate in the country to punish the "Maa-Beta" (mother-son) government in the country by voting it out. Addressing an election rally in this north Punjab town on Friday for BJP candidate and yester-year actor Vinod Khanna, Modi said that the electorate, which has already voted in the first six phases of election, have bid farewell to the UPA government.
He urged voters of the remaining constituencies, where voting is to be held in the next three phases (April 30, May 7 and 12), to exercise their franchise and vote out the UPA government completely. "Voters who have already voted have bid farewell to this (UPA) government. They have already laid the foundation for a stable government in the country. Now, you have to go and vote out this government," Modi said.
"The country has not seen a more corrupt government in its entire history. This country has brought the country to the brink of devastation. This mother-son government has ruined this country. You should punish this government by voting it out," he added.
Modi is addressing five rallies across Punjab on Friday. All 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab go to polls April 30.

Sonia Gandhi has destroyed India: Narendra Modi

Bharatiya Janata Party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has accused Congress president Sonia Gandhi of destroying the nation.
Addressing a rally in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, on Friday evening, Modi said Gandhi was busy in promoting her son and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.

The government of mother and son has destroyed the nation. She (Sonia Gandhi) is interested only in promoting her son, not in the welfare of the nation. Having worked with government closely for ten years, she was never worried about the nation, she has done only one job in 10 years, that is, preparing her son for politics. The whole nation has been destroyed for this," Modi said.
Later addressing another rally in Pathankot District, Modi said: "Usually, opposition parties join together to remove the incumbent ruling party. But here, the ruling party has joined hands with new people like NGOs and revolutionists not to save the government, but to stop Modi."
BJP and its allies are set to win a narrow majority of the 543 parliamentary seats, defeating the ruling Congress party, in the world's largest democratic election, the latest opinion poll showed on April 15.
The ruling Congress party faces a struggle to be re-elected after a decade in power due to public anger over the economic slowdown, high inflation and a string of corruption scandals.
Indian elections are notoriously hard to predict, however, due to the country's diverse electorate and a parliamentary system in which local candidates hold great sway. Voting in the world's most populous democracy, where about 815 million people are expected to cast their votes, is phased over several weeks, ending on May 12. Results are due to be announced on May 16.

Swami Agnivesh praises Modi slamming hate speech mongers

April 25:
Swami Agnivesh on Friday said that he had congratulated BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for speaking against leaders who make hate speeches and expected the BJP to follow his views and expel Giriraj Singh.

"I have welcomed Modi's decision to distance himself from the hate comments made by leaders like Giriraj Singh, Praveen Togadia and Ramdas Kadam. With their hate speeches, our religion which is based on the Vedas earns a bad name. I would like that Giriraj Singh is removed from the party, as he has not apologized. If the BJP respects Modi's views, then Rajnath Singh should immediately expel him," Swami Agnivesh said while referring to Modi's apparent rebuke of leaders who are making irresponsible statements.

Congress has only one agenda - to stop me, says Narendra Modi

The Congress is pursuing a single-point agenda "Stop Modi" but the voting trend so far in the Lok Sabha elections indicates that the UPA is on its way out, BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi said here Monday.
Addressing an election rally in Kalyan town in Thane district, Modi said the Congress was not fighting to retain power or to win the election.
"It is only pursuing a single-point agenda 'Stop Modi' at any cost, as they apprehend they will be ruined," the Bharatiya Janata Party leader said at the rally where he shared the dais with ally Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray.
Hitting out at the Congress, Modi said: "They have looted the country and all the wealth is kept in foreign banks."
"It must be brought back. People want it to be brought back. It is only those whose money is stashed abroad that are scared," he said amidst thunderous applause.
He said this was the first general election in India that was not being fought by the political parties or candidates. "It is the people who are fighting this election."
Citing acts of omission by the Congress-led UPA, Modi said they had promised to make India "slum-free" in five years, provide 10 crore jobs and control inflation.
"Has all this happened? The rulers in Delhi must reply, but they are keeping quiet. They have betrayed the people of the country. Instead, they are asking Modi to give replies," the Gujarat chief minister said as the crowds cheered enthusiastically.
He also attacked Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for his statement about "a prince on a white horse carrying a magic wand, who would solve all of India's problems".
"I was wondering who that prince could be. Then I realised that it must be one person with Rs.1 lakh in his pocket, a Class 10 pass who is now worth Rs.300 crore," Modi said, referring to Rahul Gandhi's brother-in-law Robert Vadra.
Modi said that all these years, the Congress has never faced a real challenge.
"But now, they are worried. A challenge is there, that too, from a chaiwala (tea seller)," he said, referring to his own humble beginnings.
"Vote for the NDA. Give us a strong government. We will give you a strong nation," he told the crowd.

NARENDER MODI (Super Hit Song Vote B.J.P.)

Whatever is possible in Gujarat is possible in India: Narendra Modi

In an email interview with Hindustan, a Mint affiliate and the country’s second largest newspaper by readership, Gujarat chief minister and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) Narendra Modi, whom many expect to be the country’s next prime minister, fielded questions on a range of issues—from his economic priorities to his approach to foreign policy and internal security, from the fallout of the 2002 riots in his state to the discomfort some of his own senior colleagues have expressed about his candidature. Edited excerpts from a Mint translation of the interview:

There are huge expectations of your party all over the country. Are you scared of this?

There has been a feeling of disappointment and contempt towards the (current) government for many years. People have become interested in electoral politics after a long time; the faith that voters had (in elections) is returning.

I am aware of the fact that the country is expecting a lot from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Our citizens also have a right to dream and be optimistic. They should be allowed to have expectations; there is nothing wrong with it.
We are well aware of all these things and we are well prepared and mentally ready to work hard.

Will you set timelines, say, two months, three months or 100 days, to achieve your goals?

All work will be done in the timeframe that is needed. I will only get 60 months to fulfil the dreams of 125 crore people of this country. I will work hard every second and every day.

On the economic front, the country is going through a lot of problems. What will be your immediate economic priority if you form the government?

There is a need for rapid growth to revive the economy and for growth, there is need for investment. Investment will come in only when the environment is conducive, when we can re-establish the faith of investors in the system. In this scenario, policies are important, but I believe credibility and track record are also equally important.

Keeping in mind the track record of previous NDA (National Democratic Alliance) governments and current BJP state governments, I believe that it will not be difficult to regain the faith (of investors).

But this is not enough. We will take precise steps to promote infrastructure and manufacturing in a big way. Our priority will also be to create employment for the youth by focusing on manufacturing. We will also concentrate on skill development, which was neglected by the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government. One of the main reasons for the country’s problems is policy paralysis. We have to quickly come out of that.

What will be your priorities on the internal security front?

It is not the time to deal with terrorism and Maoism in a soft manner. We will have to bring about a fundamental change in our mindset while dealing with disruptive activities such as terrorism and Maoism.

Apart from making institutions more effective, we will have to rise above politics to do this work effectively. We will have to create a strong anti-terrorism framework. I believe that the most important thing is for the central government and state governments to work together and think on the same lines so that the challenge can be firmly dealt with.

How do you plan to improve relations with neighbouring countries, especially China and Pakistan?

Our foreign policy must be based on mutual respect, support and brotherhood. But our own self-interest must be paramount. We don’t want to be aggressive against anyone nor be faced with aggression. But just think, would it be possible to have a good relationship with any neighbouring country that encourages terrorism in India

It’s been a nasty campaign. What will you do to bring about a harmonious atmosphere after the results?

I am now used to this. It used to hurt me. The many baseless allegations that have been aimed at me over the last decade did hurt me. It could be said that this is an occupational hazard, but the kind of allegations I faced were torturous. There isn’t a contemptuous word in the dictionary that hasn’t been used to describe me. But as they say, sometimes the pain itself becomes a medicine. I have decided to not let these discouraging comments affect me. I now want to focus only on the positive aspects.

There is a notion that the prime minister of a coalition government is often a helpless prime minister. How will you change this notion if you come to power? To what extent will you be able to realize your agenda in a coalition?

See… like I’ve said before, we believe in inclusion. We will follow the tradition of talks and consultations with all alliance partners. Even earlier, this country has accepted the principles of coalition of the NDA government.
Atalji (Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Prime Minister between 1998 and 2004) provided the best example of what coalition is and how it can be managed. We will go forward with the same spirit. It is our clear belief that if policies are clear and if intentions are clean, then the results will be good. It is also important that there be no distrust among alliance partners.

You speak of the Gujarat model of development. Is this applicable to India?

Gujarat is a part of India. Whatever is possible in Gujarat is possible in India. But what is needed is willpower and decisive leadership. If the right atmosphere for progress exists, then investors from around the world will be ready to invest. But keep in mind, investments will only go where decisions are taken fast and the system is transparent.

Our country is a vast country where there is also much diversity. I have a clear belief that the “one shoe fits all” approach cannot be applied everywhere. Our objective should be one, the prosperity of the people, but policies and interventions as required, are also necessary.

Do you believe that the clean chit you got from the Supreme Court-monitored committee for the 2002 Gujarat riots was enough? Do you think you need to do more to win the hearts of the minorities?

After the 2002 riots, some established interests have hurled accusations at me, and tried to slander me. Some have not even hesitated to reopen old wounds of the riot victims to show me in poor light. Some have not hesitated to show India in poor light in foreign countries.
For the people who believe in our judicial system, and respect it, the clean chit that I have received should be adequate. But for people whose only objective in life is to slander Modi, for them a clean chit from every court, every system, will not be enough.

To win the hearts of the minorities, if there is a need to do something, then it is comprehensive development. I have said before that minorities do not need to hear about hollow secularist promises; they also need education, health facilities, and employment opportunities. The development of 125 crore Indians will be our objective. It is not the Bharatiya Janata Party’s culture to consolidate votes based on the math of religion and caste.
For us, the country comes first, and all our countrymen come foremost. On this particular issue, I have answered everyone’s questions repeatedly, but it seems as if no interview of mine is complete until this question is asked. It looks as if your newspaper is also under pressure (to ask me this question).

You have promised that you will, if elected, reduce taxes. So, how will you generate funds for development? For instance, it requiresRs.72,000 crore to run a bullet train from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, one of the many things you have spoken of.

My 12 years of experience in running the Gujarat government makes me believe that governments, normally, do not have dearth of funds. Government funds are either wasted through corruption, scams, or they are used for vote bank politics.

I believe if the policies are right and their implementation is strong, there will never be a lack of funds.

It is very unfortunate for our country that some governments saw poverty not as a curse, but a boon. This could be because of vote bank politics or the lack of far-sightedness among those in power. This is the reason why we are unable to think of creating something which is world-class. On the other hand, a country like South Korea, which was in a situation similar to India at the time of its independence has moved ahead rapidly, due to its progressive thinking.
During Atalji’s government, schemes such as the Golden Quadrilateral (a network of highways connecting the four ends of the country) were initiated. That was an attempt to provide world-class infrastructure to the people of India. Unfortunately, in the last 10 years, instead of moving ahead in that direction, we have been taken backwards. I think if we have a broad vision and a will to implement this with proper planning, then even our country can develop at a rapid pace.
We can also provide world-class infrastructure to our citizens across all the spheres of life.

The focus of your political campaign has shifted to an individual from the political party itself. Will a party known for its strong cadre of workers now be known by the name of an individual?

This election is not being contested by a party or an individual but it is being fought by the people of this country. The citizens of this country have decided they want to form a BJP government at the centre and I have been given an opportunity to lead the party. I am putting in all my strength and efforts to fulfil hopes of the people of this country.

Some of your own party’s senior leaders have expressed their discomfort with you. Will this be a problem if your party comes to power?

I want to make an appeal to political analysts and philosophers: please analyse if any party has the kind of internal democracy that BJP has. Should parties not be democratic? To discuss something is not to protest. And even protesting is not a bad thing. Should not we be supporting such practices in a political party where there is collective leadership and not family rule? Is it incorrect to have differences or discussions in a decision-making process? I think the healthy culture of internal democracy will continue even after we come to power. The philosophy of collective decision-making is in the DNA of BJP. What you are calling a discomfort, is, in reality, a process of collective decision-making.

Modi's Gujarat: Ahmedabad safest city in India for women travellers

When it comes to travelling, Ahmedabad is definitely the favourite amongst women as far as safety is concerned. For that matter, according to a latest survey by TripAdvisor, Ahmedabad toppled Mumbai to gain the title of the ‘Safest City’ for women travellers with over 85 per cent votes.

Travel site TripAdvisor’s annual Women Travel Survey 2014, further revealed that Delhi retained its reputation as the most unsafe city amongst the top 10 Indian cities polled. Rather the number of women who felt so actually increased from 84 per cent in 2013 to 95 per cent in 2014. Kolkata (64 per cent) and Jaipur (53 per cent) ranked second and third respectively.

The survey covered cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Surat, Pune and Jaipur.

The top three cities in India voted the safest for women travellers to travel include Ahmedabad (86 per cent), Pune (84 per cent) and Bangalore (81 per cent). Mumbai (with 72 per cent votes) has dropped to the fifth spot this year from the number one position in 2013.

Interestingly, the survey highlights that despite safety being a prime concern, over 51 per cent respondents were not aware that hotels in India and abroad have floors exclusively for women. Yet given a choice, over 72 per cent women would like to stay at such hotels while travelling solo or in an all women group.

The survey also revealed that among the 63 per cent respondents who have never travelled alone, 33 per cent felt that it was unsafe for a woman to travel alone in India. Nearly, 47 per cent respondents said they took leisure trips as part of a ‘group of women’ versus 35 per cent  who travelled solo in the last two years.  Moreover, out of 37 per cent women who have travelled solo at least once in their life, 53 per cent said they travel alone only to destinations (India or abroad) that are perceived as ‘safe’.

However, whether travelling alone or in a group of women, majority of the respondents preferred travelling to a ‘city’ as it offers a higher sense of security, law and order. Hill stations and beaches were the second and third choices respectively.

The Women Travel Survey 2014, that collected from 1068 women respondents, is now in its second year is aimed at understanding the travel sentiment and preferences of Indian women with respect to leisure travel while travelling as a single woman or as part of an all-women group. “The survey saw a mix of respondents with majority being ‘working professionals’ followed by ‘self employed’ and ‘homemakers’. Nearly 40 per cent of the respondents were in the age group of 25-35 years followed by 27 per cent in the 35-45 years and 17 per cent in the 45-55 years bracket,” a statement here said.

Nikhil Ganju, country manager, TripAdvisor India “An encouraging proportion of women in India have started to travel by themselves, or in all-women groups. What is discomforting is their preference for overseas destinations as opposed to India, from a safety perspective. It is imperative that this perception of India changes soon, to encourage more women travellers to get out there and experience the country.”

Won't practice identity politics, ready to face defeat: Modi

Narendra Modi today said he was prepared to "face defeat" but would not practice politics of identity.
He also offered to face a probe if any corruption allegations are levelled against him as Prime Minister.
"I will not make any appeal to hindus or muslims but to the entire 125 crore people of India. If it suits them, then it is fine. If it does not suit them, I am ready to face defeat in the elections, I am ready to be wiped out.

"My mantra is that all are one. I cannot accept a divide between brothers of the country in the name of secularism. In the name of secularism, the nation has been divided," he told CNBC-TV18.

He was asked whether he would make an appeal to muslims in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, from where he is contesting. He was also questioned on the objections of BJP over Sonia Gandhi's meeting with Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid when its own president Rajnath Singh had met muslim clerics in Lucknow.
In his response, he said the objection was not to the meeting but to the "message" that was going out.

"We want Soniaji to meet muslims, christians, sikhs, anybody. It is part of democracy....but a particular community was told whom to vote for. This is against Constitution and electoral laws. It is not wrong to meet but the message that has gone out is a matter of concern," the BJP leader said.

The BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate said, if voted to power, he would give priority to preventing corruption in the future rather than "waste time on cleaning up old mess".
In case charges of corruption are levelled against him in the capacity of Prime Minister, Modi said, "Professionally if there are any allegations against me, those cases should not get stuck but should continue. Modi should stop them."

Modi also talked about dealing with criminalisation of politics, saying his government would ask the Supreme Court to create a mechanism to fast-track pending cases against lawmakers.
Describing corruption as a "disease", he said he would put in place a mechanism by which corruption could be prevented.
"My priority will be develop a system by which the scope of corruption is minimised. We have to decide either I should concentrate my efforts on preventing new corruption or to clean up the old mess. My conscience says that my focus should to be ensure that new mess (of corruption) is not created," he said.
"We have to decide whether I should focus my energy on preventing new corruption or waste time on cleaning up old mess," he added.
"If I create such a mechanism which has technology and transparency and all the preventive measures, we will address jointly the issue of corruption. That should not be political, otherwise the cause will be defeated and this disease will continue to increase," he said.

Narendra Modi vows to put corrupt politicians behind bars, says won't spare even BJP leaders

HARDOI (UP): Narendra Modi on Monday vowed to cleanse the political system and Parliament from criminal elements if he comes to power and said his first job will be to set up a panel to probe pending criminal cases against the new MPs.

The BJP prime ministerial candidate said he will ensure that all offenders are sent to jail after asking the Supreme Court to hear the cases against them expeditiously.

Modi's promise to crack down on MPs with criminal antecedents across party lines in a bid to decriminalise politics and Parliament came at a poll rally here.

"I have decided that when a new government is formed after May 16, I will set up a committee to find out what cases are pending against whom. (Lok Sabha) candidates submit in their form during filing nominations the details of cases against them. I will not discriminate in it. I will not spare even the BJP and NDA candidates.

"I will ask the Supreme Court to hear the cases fast. Those, who have committed crime will go to jail and their seats will go to candidates with clean image. No accused will dare to fight polls. Who says that this cleansing cannot happen? I have come to cleanse politics. It is necessary to free Indian democracy from criminalisation," he said.

Modi also stepped up his attack on SP, BSP and Congress, saying the "power game by the clan of three parties" is responsible for the poor plight of UP and the nation even as he ridiculed Rahul Gandhi for visiting homes of the poor like tourists who visit Taj Mahal.

Playing up his tea-vendor image, the Gujarat chief minister also sought to contrast it with those "born with a silver spoon in their mouth" and made an oblique reference to his OBC origin as he reached out to voters in the Hindi heartland.

"While the country has been destroyed by the governments of mother and son, Uttar Pradesh has been destroyed by a father-son government. On one hand there is a father-son duo while on the other hand is Behenji (Mayawati)...they waste their whole tenure of five years in teaching a lesson to each other.

"And mother and son (Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi) simply add fuel to the fire, inflame it. This clan of SP, BSP and Congress is thriving here in this manner. Enough of this game of power has continued. Now give me a chance to serve you," Modi said.

Targeting both Congress and SP for practising dynastic politics and nepotism, Modi was quite acerbic in his criticism of Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra.

"For them all that matters is dynasty and nepotism. And now even even the extended family is being covered. They are those, who are not ready to recognize the power of the community beyond their family members.

"These people, who think that that only their sons and daughters will do something and are concerned only with them or their uncle-aunt and insulting the future of Uttar Pradesh," he said.

Mocking Rahul over his visits to the homes of the poor and Dalits, Modi said that he goes to the poor to understand how does a poor person look as he has not seen poverty like someone, who has not seen Taj Mahal visits Agra to see it.

"In the same fashion, Rahul Bhaiya visits here to see the poor. These people who are born with a silver spoon in their mouth want to see poverty. They wonder whether the poor have two legs, two hands, does the poor also have a voice. These people go on poverty tourism," he said.

Alleging that poverty is a "tourist destination" for Gandhi, Modi said, "Whenever he goes for this, he is accompanied by a crew of television cameras. He picks up a child in his lap for a good snap and immediately after the photo session is over, the child is put back on the ground."

Seeking to contrast it with his own "poor" childhood, the BJP's PM pick made an attempt to hardsell his tea-vendor image, saying, "I am born in poverty. I know how it feels during a cold winter night. I remember people used to slap me on my face, whenever the tea served by me used to be cold. The scars still remain."

Hitting out at those who "mock" his childhood and poverty, the Gujarat chief minister said, "I have no regrets that I was born in a poor or backward family. I feel sad when leaders of SP, BSP and Congress make mockery of it and say whether a tea vendor can run the country. This shows the mentality of these leaders. They have become so haughty that they mock poverty. This does not concern Modi.

"What is under question is the mentality of these leaders, who mock my poverty, my childhood every now and then. They should hear it out. I have sold tea and am proud of it. I have not done anything like selling the nation".
